Flow is an important factor in all aquariums. A specific aspect which is caused by flow is surface agitation. This is important because it aids in the aquariums ability to exchange gasses from inside out or from outside in by moving water molecules on the surface of the water opening up gaps for gasses such as CO2 and Oxygen to leave and enter the tank respectively. This process happens naturally but at a much slower rate in a body of water with little to no surface agitation. Adding surface agitation to the mix, this process is sped up exponentially.
The benefits are apparent in aquariums that have surface agitation as excess CO2 can escape easier as well as much needed oxygen for the fish is able to enter into the tank.
